Master and Doctorate in Letters

 

 

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

  1. To contribute to raising the scientific and academic competence of the University and the State as well as of the local and regional community, based on these communities’ intrinsic social, historical, economic and cultural characteristics.
    2. Meet the needs of vertical integration of teaching and research in the region, as well as the needs of academic training at elementary education, high school and university levels.
    3. Increase cultural exchange, based on pluri-culturality and multi-referentiality, preserving the interests of various ethnic groups, public institutions and social segments that contribute to the promotion of culture and the preservation of historical and social memory.
    4. Participate in the development of strategies to enable the understanding of the formation of individuals’ historical identities according to their spaces, territories, cultures, by means of scientific knowledge and social practices.
    5. To promote the articulation between university teaching degrees (undergraduate, lato sensu specialization), extension activities and stricto sensu graduate courses aiming at specific short and medium-term actions meant to improve teaching quality as well as educational practices.
    6. Make it possible to take full advantage of the institution’s teaching potential by articulating the different Collegiates’ (multi-campus) stricto and lato sensu graduate projects with other UNIOESTE projects.
    7. Conduct the training of professionals able to build upon the socio-historical understanding of the linguistic system, as well as the different meanings and valuations found in language forms and literary/artistic productions of a multifaceted culture. Enable said professionals to understand the formal, semi-formal and informal processes of teaching-learning and the functioning of linguistic and cultural mechanisms that engender social identities in the complex interface between language and society.

Objectives of the Master’s and Doctorate Courses in Letters – Language and Society concentration area

  1. Promote in-depth theoretical reflection on problems that permeate the relationship between language and society, with a view to solving these problems and disseminating research results.
  2. Encourage the creation of new areas and themes, in view of the multi-referential character of language and the dynamics of the linguistic environment.
  3. Encourage studies in Latin American culture and literary and artistic production, as well as its interfaces with history, memory and identities.
  4. Prepare researchers to be able to answer the topical questions of a sociolinguistically complex culture, giving proper consideration to its linguistic, literary, socio-historical-political, ideological and pedagogical aspects;
  5. Train technically and scientifically qualified personnel for the exercise of professional teaching and research activities in areas focused on the relationship between language and society;
  6. Train teachers to carry out the crucial reflections of an educational environment situated in the context of a border area, considering its migrational, ethnic, cultural and linguistic movements.
  7. Encourage studies in Latin American culture and literary and artistic production, as well as its interfaces with history, memory and identities.
